    Responsibilities

    The Rig Engineer will report to the Operations Manager and will be responsible for assisting in organizing, monitoring and implementing all MODU activities, in line with the Company's Health, Safety, Quality and Commercial objectives and legislative requirements based out of Melbourne on a 6 month contract, with the possibility of permanent employment in the Diamond Offshore Perth Office. 

     

    Primary Responsibilities:

    The Rig Engineer may:

    • Be fully conversant with Company Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental policies and procedures, and comply with them at all times
    • Assist Operations Managers, as required, in the management of the MODU
    • Provide technical support, as required, to Operations Managers
    • Prepare reports and maintain data and files as appropriate
    • Carry out duties assigned as a member of the Onshore Emergency Response Team
    • Assist the Operations Managers in ensuring MODU operations are carried out in compliance with Company policies and procedures
    • Provide guidance in selection of new or replacement equipment and systems
    • To attain and maintain a good working knowledge of Safe Operating Procedures as laid out in legislation and in the company's GEMS system
    • To maintain sound, safe working practices at all times as dictated by company policy and procedures
    • To assist with the operation of the Modification Authorization Form system (MAFs) and Technical Services Work Request (TSWR)
    • To assist Operations Managers with the planning and implementation of shipyard projects, including all aspects of planning, analysis, cost control and implementation
    • To organize and manage 3rd party Contractors for a variety of rig projects
    • To obtain quotations for concept projects
    • Liaise with Technical/Marketing/Safety/Accounts & Purchasing Departments as required
    • Have a working knowledge of all Equipment/Systems onboard the Drilling Vessel
    • Liaise with the Operators personnel/Engineers - provide technical support
    • Liaise with Rig OIM & Department Supervisors providing technical support
    • Assist Operations Managers preparing and controlling the rig's annual budget process.
    • Participate in an on call emergency rotation
    • Participate fully in all Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives and safety programs
    • Follow Diamond Offshore Global Excellence Management System (G.E.M.S.)
    • Perform other duties as required

    Qualifications

    Basic

    • Hold a tertiary degree in engineering and/or equivalent related discipline
    • Able to demonstrate competence in offshore maintenance or similar in a marine environment
    • Hold a valid driving license
    • 5 or more years’ of experience in the offshore drilling or related oil field services industry
    • Able and willing to travel, both onshore and offshore, up to 50% of the time or more as required for project completion 

    Preferred:

    • Computer literate and have practical experience in Microsoft Office applications including MS Project, excel and word documents
    • Computer literate with an understanding of technical drawings and common engineering practices
    • Self-motivator and be able to motivate others
    • Professional demeanor, be results oriented and have confidence in self and his/her work
    • Training in project planning, familiarity with Safety Cases & DCR Regulations 
    • Well Control / Stability / Subsea Equipment / Drilling Engineering Technology courses would be beneficial
    • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization
    • High degree of organizational ability and be capable of developing and following plans and programs without supervision
    • Subscribe to the concept that Safety and Quality are a "line management" responsibility
    • Good team member and have leadership qualities proven through prior experience
